Our choral and
instrumental ensembles have been formed to meet the diverse needs
of this growing parish. We feel that there is something for almost
everyone! Listed below are the various offerings. If you have any
questions, please feel free to call the Organist and Director of
Music, Randolph James, in the Music Department during regular office
hours at (508) 548-3863.
Psallite
et Gaudete!
(September - June Music Series)
Psallite et Gaudete! is the name of the St. Barnabas series
of musical events held during the year. The translation of Sing
& Rejoice! reflects our joy in being able to share musical opportunities
with the parish and the community. The series features the Department
of Music in services of Evensong, Compline, the traditional Advent
Procession with Lessons and Carols, Christmas Lessons Carols, and
Sunday afternoon concerts with orchestra. Events also include concerts
by artists from around the area and on tour. Funding for this series
comes directly from individual contributions.
All events in
the Psallite et Gaudete! series are open to the public and free
of charge unless otherwise noted. Donations are welcomed to support
the endeavors of our music program.

The St. Barnabas
Schola
This ensemble sings the office of Compline
at 8 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsals precede
the service at 6:30 p.m. The Schola is open to men and women of
St. Barnabas and the community at large who are interested in the
simple beauty of plainsong. New choristers should contact Randolph
James for an audition.
The Canterbury
Choir (for high school students and adults)
(September through June)
This choir sings at the 11 a.m. Sunday Eucharist and, in addition,
at Evensong, Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols, concerts
and Diocesan festivals and services. The repertoire is ambitious,
and a minimum of four hours per week is asked. Those interested
in participating in this choir need not be accomplished or professional
singers; a trained solo voice is not always conducive to a good
choral ensemble sound. A musical background, ability to sight-read,
as well as strong commitment to attendance are the requirements
for membership. The group rehearses each Thursday, 7-9 p.m. New
choristers should contact Randolph James for an audition.
