Call for Photographs

Last weekend was a busy one!

Parish Hall cleaning (pictures) on Saturday morning, 2 cookouts (lunch & dinner), 5 pm Eucharist in the Chapel, a humorous presentation on why laughter REALLY matters. Then Sunday services, baking pies for Monday's Lobster on the Lawn, a chance to walk a visiting labyrinth...

Then Monday rolled around and it was Lobster Roll night! (pictures)

We are trying to put together more photo albums after people commented on how much they enjoyed the Strawberry Festival pictures we posted earlier. So, please contact the webteam and let's share more pictures! You can see we have added a permanent link on our online journal to our photo collections. Can't wait to see some of your pictures!

Parish Hall Clean-up Day is Saturday, July 15!

Clean-up Day starts at 9:00 a.m., Saturday July 15

As many of you may know, the nursery school and day care have moved to a new location. This provides us with an opportunity to rethink the use of the rooms and spaces in our Parish Hall.

The first task is to clean!!!!!

Cleaning one's own house alone is never as much fun as cleaning with others. And for many of us, the hardest part of cleaning is the pre-sorting and putting away of clutter around the house. "The floor is the largest shelf in the house," says a teenager we know. Doesn't make vacuuming, dusting, laundry easier to accomplish, though. And, because we know about all the clutter waiting for sorting through, and all the repairs and chores we ought to do around the house, the cleaning never seems to be completed.

This is where cleaning the Lower Parish Hall can help.

The rooms we need to clean in the Lower Parish Hall are Empty! Scrubbing, sweeping, & mopping are much more fun without furniture and 'stuff' everywhere. There is no carpet to deal with either. Plus it is a finite area. The coordinators have a clear idea of what they want to accomplish this Saturday, so it is a finite list of tasks to complete.

The Parish Hall Usage Committee is providing snacks & coffee in the morning and a cookout at lunch time after our work is done. They have some of the cleaning supplies, but they ask us to BYOB/G (Bring Your Own Bucket/Gloves), etc.

The Parish Hall is part of our church home. With the departure of the day care, we can make plans for the Sunday School's use of the lower hall. And we will be able to have all of our staff be in the same building on the same floor! Different groups that use the building, from within the parish and also the community, were asked to tell the Parish Hall Usage Committee about what their needs and wishes for their programs so we can figure out how to best fix up the spaces used.

But all of the visions for future uses are predicated on the next step: Getting the rooms cleaned and fixed up.

Let's come out in droves and make the Hall sparkle!

Strawberries in the Wilderness & Lobsters on the Lawn

As we related in an earlier posting, the bags of strawberries that were not used for shortcake at the Strawberry Festival on June 24, were farmed out to kind folks' freezers. We expected to call all the berries 'home' within a week or so - after the new freezer in the Parish Hall was down to zero degrees.

However, the freezer cannot fit the 150 bags of strawberries as well as the weekly delivery of umpteen pies and bags of lobster meat which are used in our Lobster on the Lawn dinners each Monday.

So we have had to ask our kind hosts to keep our berry refugees a bit longer. Many jokes are starting to surface about the berries in diaspora. But 40 days at zero degrees isn't that long a time...

Lobster Rolls, Anyone?

Our Music Director has a goal of raising funds for our series of musical events (concerts and special services) so that we can offer these opportunities to the community and parish more frequently and with less concern about donations on the day of a concert. We are blessed with a strong music program which enriches our worship and is a means of reaching out into our community.

Our Music Director also had a vision: to see people making more use of our beautiful campus during the summer.

How to achieve these two goals?

Lobster!! and Pie!! On Mondays in July & August, from 5:30- 7:30pm, we are offering picnic suppers of Lobster Rolls, pickles, chips, a drink, and a piece of blueberry or lemon meringue pie. (For those in your crowd who turn up their noses at crustaceans, there are PB&J sandwiches...).

We prep for the dinners on Sundays after 10:00am church and on Mondays starting at 3:00pm. All parishioners are welcomed and invited to sign up to help. Our first dinner was a huge success: over 150 dinners were sold! And the helpers get to laugh together and turn tasks into fun times! Tell Randolph James or Stasia Palmer you want to help and they will get you involved. Of course, buying dinner supports this as well, but then you miss out on the fellowship...

Pick up your dinners at the Parish House and settle down for a picnic supper. We have blankets, tables & chairs, but you are welcome to bring your own. Join us for a simple luscious supper while enjoying the natural beauty of the grounds for which we are God's stewards.

As a side benefit, for those of you who enjoy the a capella group Hyannis Sound, their concerts start at 8:00pm on Mondays, with doors opening around 7:30pm. So come to sup with us, and then walk across the street for the concert. How relaxing! How refreshing!
