What has been entrusted to our care?
So much! In 1888, the Beebe Family constructed Saint Barnabas on the current grounds that included the church and chapel (the former carriage house). Over time, additional buildings have been donated—even relocated from other parts of town—and we are currently stewards of 6 buildings on nearly 6 acres of land. We have been further entrusted with generous long-lasting donations that comprise an endowment that provides for Saint Barnabas’s secure future.
Saint Barnabas has been entrusted to care for these spaces and its endowment, and—most of all—for you. We care for these gifts using our people, places and programs, and we do it in a way that lives fully our Christian values to love and serve others.
Our clergy and staff help us to celebrate and mourn, to offer thanks and concern, to learn and serve. They prepare for worship, baptisms, weddings, and funerals; they provide pastoral counseling, develop educational programs, and maintain our spaces and grounds; they manage financial resources, and support ministries run by parishioners. They work together in all of this. Ministry is not a one person job.
More than just a pretty place
Beautiful buildings and grounds greet us each Sunday, but you might not realize that these gifts are used every day by people in our community to help others in need. In addition to our lovely stone church and chapel, our property ministry also supports:
Alcoholics Anonymous • Alternative Gift Market • Around the Table Soup Kitchen • Belonging to Each Other (homeless ministry) • Boy Scouts • Brain Injury Support Group • Coalition for Children • Engage Falmouth • Falmouth Chorale • Falmouth Historical Society • Falmouth Police • Falmouth Service Center • Falmouth Walk • Life Line Screening • No Place for Hate • Sea Scouts •Upper Cape Chaplaincy • Woods Hole Child Center • Yoga for Recovery
Once again, ministry is not a one person job. In addition to the work of our dedicated staff, we have countless parishioners and volunteers who are indispensable to the ministry of our church. Most of the important work of this community is done by you, and includes:
Acolytes • Adult Formation • Altar Guild • Behrens Fund Committee • Book Club • Centering Prayer • Christmas Fair • Clergy and Staff Search Committees • Finance Committee • Lay Eucharistic Ministers • Lectors • Lobster-on-the-Lawn • Music Ministry • Outreach Committee • Pastoral Care Committee • Prayer Chain • Prayer Shawl • Property Committee • Strawberry Festival • Sunday School • Ushers • Vestry
